Homeopathy – selecting a remedy, dosage & storage

Homeopathy is a natural system of medicine that encourages the body’s innate ability to heal itself. It operates on the belief that all signs of illness stem from disharmony and that treating the entire person, not just the disease, is necessary for recovery.

Homeopathic remedies are energic medicines used to stimulate the body’s healing response by mimicking the symptoms of the existing condition. The fundamental principle of homeopathy is to treat “like with like.” This means that a substance that produces symptoms in large doses can be used in small amounts to treat the same symptoms.

How to select a remedy:

Your homeopathic kit will come with a guide to help you find the right remedy. So look at the table of contents and find the ailment that matches your symptom. Read the remedy descriptions and choose the remedy that is the closest match to the patient’s symptoms. For example, there are a number of different remedies listed for fevers: Aconite, Belladonna, and Chamomilla – the remedy that will work the most effectively is the one that most closely matches the patient’s fever picture. If no improvement is seen after 3-4 doses, select the next best remedy.

Here is the table of contents in my guide:

With homeopathy, we aim to match the frequency of dosing with the intensity of the condition. For intense conditions, such as a fever or a burn, dosing frequently, such as every 15 minutes to an hour is ideal. For moderate conditions, dosing every 4 hours is preferred. As the condition starts to improve, slow down or consider stopping dosing.

If the condition does not improve within a reasonable time frame consider if further personalised advice from a trained professional or medical intervention is required.

Taking a dose:

To take a dose, remove the cap of the selected remedy bottle and place 2-3 drops into another bottle that contains 250ml of water. Seal and shake this new bottle vigorously, as this will medicate the contents of the bottle, which can then be sipped for each subsequent dose. This is particularly effective for conditions where repeated dosing is required. Repeat this process of preparing a fresh bottle each day, if required.

If you’d like an immediate dosage – you can do 2 drops directly under your tongue. Make sure to avoid eating or drinking 10 minutes before and after to give your body a chance to absorb properly.

The potencies of the medicines in this kit are stronger than those bought in a health food store or online. In a First Aid prescription, these stronger potencies are often much more effective. As these medicines are strong, they are not to be used for prolonged periods of time, except under the guidance of a qualified Homeopath.

Each remedy in my Home Care Kit is a Fibonacci Homachord (potency). Complexes are designed through clinical experience using a combination of Fibonacci Homachords.

How to store your homeopathic remedies:

These remedies are kept in a high concentration of alcohol, which will preserve them for a minimum of 2 years.

Homoeopathic remedies are light and heat-sensitive. That’s why we always supply our remedies in amber, light-resistant bottles. Paige Cowley’s range of homoeopathic remedies is supplied in a timber box that provides additional light and general protection for the remedy.

For maximum protection, homoeopathic remedies should:

  • be stored in their original container
  • kept in a cool dark place away from moisture-laden air, and strong odours such as perfumes, chemicals and essential oils
  • not to be stored near appliances that emit high magnetic fields like televisions, microwaves, mobile phones and computers
